The Boat

"Brace yourselfs boys, we're running the river!"

A small fast boat with power trim and proper hull design is the way to go. My boat will scoot along at planing speed only drawing a couple of inches. I can get past sand bar barriers where few can travel. Once past the barriers, the river deepens again. This area is a great getaway. For those who know the river, it is between Hookers and Portage.

Of course, once in a while, I can misread the river and run up on a sandbar. It helps to have a small boat in this situation because the only way off is by pushing.

I always bring a little metal wire to clear the "pee hole" of sand.

I go through at least one aluminum propeller a year. If they don't get dinghed up, by the end of the season, they pretty ground down by the sand.
