"Brace yourselfs boys, we're running the river!"A small fast boat with power trim and proper hull design is the way to go. My boat will scoot along at planing speed only drawing a couple of inches. I can get past sand bar barriers where few can travel. Once past the barriers, the river deepens again. This area is a great getaway. For those who know the river, it is between Hookers and Portage.
Of course, once in a while, I can misread the river and run up on a sandbar. It helps to have a small boat in this situation because the only way off is by pushing.
I always bring a little metal wire to clear the "pee hole" of sand.
I go through at least one aluminum propeller a year. If they don't get dinghed up, by the end of the season, they pretty ground down by the sand.
